For the men and women of the RCMP, service is about much more than a pay cheque. It’s a tradition with well over a century of history and for many of us, it’s one of the most satisfying opportunities to serve we’ll ever have the honour to accept.

It’s important to realize that this campaign and the broken promises do not solely affect those on the frontline, but it also affects the thousands of Civilian Members, who are hired for the specialized scientific, technical or administrative skills, who support the frontline members. They have struggled for many years as they are pay matched and touch pointed to the public service. They, too, have issues with the negotiation of their pay.

This campaign is about much more than a wage agreement – although the principle of mutual respect is at the heart of this issue – it’s also about service.

All members of the RCMP pledged an oath to execute their duties faithfully and diligently and we’d be forsaking that oath if we didn’t stand up for the integrity of Canadian public safety. Simply stated, we strongly believe that changes to the existing wage agreement signed by the government will have a long-lasting and negative impact on our ability to carry out our duty and protect Canadians. Without the resources to attract and retain the best and brightest policing talent Canada has to offer, we stand at a dangerous disadvantage. For those of us who have dedicated our lives to the RCMP, it’s a heartbreaking reality; it’s something worth fighting for.
